OUR LEADERS

As a Baptist church, we ultimately believe that Christ is the head of the church, and that He exercises His Lordship directly over individual Christians and churches. In other words, Christ is the mediator between God and man (1 Tim 2:5), but there is no mediator between Christ and His people. The way AWBC exercises this biblical principle is through quarterly member meetings, where the entire church membership make decisions according to how God has led them. However on a day to day basis, the church entrusts the following elected leaders to represent their views and follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit:

DANIEL BASSETT

PASTOR

Rev. Dan Bassett was called to the role of pastor at AWBC
in January of 2017. He provides general oversight of the
leadership team, as well as being responsible for the teaching
and preaching of the church. He is ably supported by his
wife Dani, and has two young children.

BEN MUDIE

 ELDER

Ben is an elder who has a passion for good evangelical teaching. As an elder, he also carries responsibility in prayer, and is always happy to be approached by those in need of support. He is married and has two beautiful children. Ben is a teacher in the local Christian school.

RAY WAGHORN

 ELDER

Ray is an Elder who has a passion for fellowship and discipleship, and also serves as chair of the building committee. He desires to see Christians take their faith seriously, but not themselves. Ray loves to fish in his spare time, as well as take his wife Beth out for coffee. Ray is an operator in the Gladstone power station.

JAC NEWELL

YOUTH AND KIDS

Jacqueline was called to her role in April of 2020, and has pastoral responsibilities for the Youth and children of the church and community. Jac has many years of experience with kids and youth, both in Australia and overseas. She currently has a Diploma of Ministry, and is working toward her Degree.

DONNA HAGGITH

DEACON – OP SHOP

Donna lives onsite at the church with her husband Matt and is a tireless worker for the church. Her predominant roles in the church include overseeing the work of the op shop, newsletters, and preparing and distributing food parcels. She is currently studying a Bachelor of Theology through Malyon College.

MATT HAGGITH

DEACON – MAINTENANCE

Matt is a deacon who is responsible for all the maintenance and grounds work around the place. Luckily, he is well placed to do that, living in the manse. His other passions involve surfing and telling absolutely everyone about Jesus! He is currently studying a Bachelor of Theology through Malyon College

PETER RICHES

 DEACON – TREASURER

Peter is a deacon who has oversight of our finances and graphic design. A strange mix, but as someone who headed up fairfax’s graphic design department, he is more than capable. He enjoys serving God in Agnes as a full-time volunteer with his equally hard-working wife, Vini.

DAVID THOMAS

DEACON – SECRETARY

David is a deacon who has oversight of all our administration, minute taking and official correspondence. His experience in many jobs, including building and the police force, is an asset to the church. He and his wife Roslyn now enjoy the quite, retired lifestyle on a property in Deepwater, down near Baffle Creek.

ROSLYN THOMAS

 DEACON – MISSIONS

Roslyn is a Deacon who has oversight of all our overseas mission work. This mainly involves guiding the church in prayer, passing on missionary newsletters to our prayer team, and heading up our monthly mission segment in church. Roslyn also volunteers at the op shop, and is married to David.

LUKE JONES

DEACON – MUSIC

Luke is a gifted musician who is in charge of our music team and equipment. As a trained musician and music teacher, Luke has a passion for singing songs to God that are melodic and grounded in scripture. He is married to another school teacher and has a young daughter. Luke likes to assert his moral autonomy by being late to deacons’ meetings 🙂

BEN STONE

DEACON – EVENTS

Ben moved to Agnes Water in 2018 after holidaying here most of his childhood. His wife Kirsty works as a primary school teacher at the local Christian School and they have two young children. Ben believes a smaller church provides everyone an opportunity to be involved and we can grow together as we are challenged in different areas of ministry.
